Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) have become pervasive in our society manifesting from mild conditions to severe disabilities.

These health conditions affect 5% - 15% or more of all school children in America AND a larger percentage of adults.  The  general health of our children, our adult population and all levels of our society are at stake.

The personal, societal, and economic costs of a child or adult's mental dysffunction cannot be calculated, but it is safe to say that everyone is affected directly or indirectly by ADD/ADHD and everyone must become aware of the risks and take action now to protect the mental health of our population.

What is ADD/ADHD?

ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder is associated with the inability to focus one's attention on a task, project, or some other activity.  It is a condition related to difficulty sitting still, paying attention or controlling impulsive behavior.  In some cases, the problem is so persisitent that it interferes with daily life, including activities at home, school, social engagements and work settings.

ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is related to ADD and is characterized by inappropriate and impulsive activities including hyperactivity.  ADHD is a neurobiological disorder that most often affects school children.  It is now known that many symptoms of ADHD if left untreated continue into adulthood.

ADD and ADHD have been known since the turn of the century but only today does this disorder seem to be more prevalent in our society.  The fact that ADD/ADHD often persists into adulthood has only come to our attention over the last few decades.

Why are we drugging our children?

Psychostimulants are the most widely used medications for the management of ADD/ADHD related symptoms.  The most common side effects to these drugs are reduction in appetite and difficulty sleeping

Some children experience 'stimulant rebound', a brief period of negative mood, fatigue, or increased activity when the medication is wearing off or if the medication is terminated for some reason.

Many professionals point to violent individual behaviors, incidents or even disasters in some schools related to use and side effects of some ADD/ADHD medications.

This is why it is vitally important to discuss the alternative of administering medications with our health care provider.  Medication for ADD/ADHD cannot be taken lightly since there can be potentially dangerous side effects.  Other side effects of this medication can include effects on individual height and weight gain.

The 'rebound effect' while taking pschostimulants such as Ritalin or Adderall, two very popular medications for ADD/ADHD, can occur in the form of anger, frustration or sadness for a period of about one hour when the effect of medication wears off.  When the dosage is too high, motor tics may be unmasked, or agitation, depression or lethargy may occur until the dose wears off.  These side effects are usually managed by lowering the dose.

Ritalin has many known side effects that include decreased blood flow to the brain and routinely causes other gross malfunctions in the developing brain of a child.  According to some experts, some of these side effects have been ignored by Ritalin advocates.

Damaging Effects Of Prescription Drugs

According to some experts, other damaging effects of these medications may include:
  • Decreased blood flow to the brain, an effect recently shown to be caused by cocaine where it is associated with impaired thinking ability and memory loss.
  • Disruption of growth hormone leading to suppression of growth in the body and brain.
  • Permanent neurological tics, including Tourette's Syndrome.
  • Addiction and abuse including withdrawal reactions on a daily basis.
  • Psychosis (mania), depression, insominia, agitation, and social withdrawal.
  • Possible shrinkage or other permanent physical abnormalities in the brain.
  • Worsening of the very symptoms the drug is supposed to improve including hyperactivity and inattention.
  • Decreased ability to learn.
These stimulants are prescribed to several million U.S. children in the hope of improving their inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity.  These drugs produce a robotic or zombie-like behavior in children which is enforced docility and obedience that may create a few weeks of subdued behavior but may have no positive long-term effects at all.

What The Experts Say...

Is medicating our children to a high degree really necessary?

Some say we need to drug our kids to help their scholastic achievement.

Is that true?

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says, '... a review of 17 studies using 55 independent measures of academic achievements showed that psycho-stimulants (like Ritalin) have no long-term beneficial effects on scholastic success'.  (Methyphenidate Review, August 1995 Office of Diversion Control, Dept. of Justice, DEA)

According to the above review, our own U.S. goverment says that drugs are NOT helping our children with long-term scholastic success.

Dr. Michael Papa from believes that the motto of every parent or teacher who is tempted to resort to meds should be, 'Educate don't medicate'.

"I suggest taking a natural approach first before opting for medication", says Dr. Papa.

"Talk to your doctor about alternatives to medication.  Many parents want to avoid Ritalin or Adderall and other drugs with the possible side effects and I don't blame them.  The best approach is the natural approach", Dr. Papa adds.

Kimberlee Price began a natural approach for her child and was very pleased with the results.

"My five year old daughter, Kayla, began taking First Choice chewable supplements about 6 weeks ago.  I have been truly amazed by her reaction to these vitamins.  The major change in her behavior is her ability to focus longer in learning and playing situations. Kayla attends a private school and day care where she interacts with a lot of other children.  Before taking the supplements, she had a real problem having self control.  Her teaches have even noticed a big difference in her behavior since we started her on the supplements.  She went from 2 time outs a day to none", boasts Kimberlee.

It's clear from customer comments and testimonials that the First Choice supplement is also helping teenage ADD/ADHD and adult ADD/ADHD alike.  It's been well-known by experts in the industry that there are other natural products that get similar results, however it's because of the special ingredients in the First Choice product that makes it stand above the others that I've seen or tested.

Ryan, 33, says that since he started taking First Choice supplements his ability to concentrate and complete tasks has been easier for him in the business world.

"I rarely could complete my tasks on the schedule I was shooting for before taking Dr. Papa's supplement.  I would get so frustrated because I would have 5 projects started and nothing completed.  I recently completed a big project of mine in record time.  I know it is the supplement because I've been doing nothing else different except taking First Choice three times per day.  It's been a big change for me", says Ryan.

Dr. Papa, the founder of the First Choice supplement adds, "It's clear that this natural supplement has dramatic effects on individuals with ADD and ADHD.  I've seen it to be true with not only children, but teenagers and adults.  It offers a real solution to modifying behavior and will help you focus on your task at hand.  The exceptional results that this product is giving people is clearly due to the  vitamins and minerals that it contains.  It contains the most comprehensive ingredient list on the market and you just won't find a better natural solution", says Dr. Pappa.
